Woking Food Festival 2017: Bitesize Presentations

Join us at The Academy during the 2017 Woking Food & Drink Festival for a programme of inspirational bitesize presentations brought to you by a range of local food and drink producers, experts and chefs.

Speakers will range from Steve Drake, sharing his views on the creative side of cooking, to Simon Taylor of Surrey Hills Butchers demonstrating butchery skills and the secrets of cooking and carving.  Presentations will be spread across the duration of the festival, ensuring all enthusiastic foodies have the opportunity to attend the talks of their choice.

  • All proceeds from these presentations will be donated to local charity Woking & Sam Beare Hospices.

11.30am: Simon Taylor – The Art of Butchery

  • In this master class Simon will educate you on the art of butchery, as he talks through and demonstrates a whole lamb butchery. Such a very valuable tool in everyday, culinary life and in the moral conflict some of us struggle with.

12.30pm: Sarah Akhurst & Myles Williamson

  • Food Writers and Tante Marie Graduates

1.30pm: Jon Mackenzie – Food Photography

  • Food photography for your Smartphone

2.30pm: Steve Drake – Creative Food

  • Exploring the creative journey of cooking, the need for a story behind our food and the emotional experience of eating. Looking closely at ‘flavour memories’, Steve will discuss the importance of how food tastes and questions why then “are we so hung up on presentation?”

3.30pm: Brian Watt – Sloane’s Hot Chocolate Tasting Club

  • Come and join Brian Watt owner of Sloane’s Hot Chocolate who make the Posh Hot Chocolate in their studio in Byfleet.
    You can have a journey around the World of Hot Chocolate tasting their Java Milk, the Madagascar dark 67%  to the Ecuador 70% and their specially created Barista Blend and even a cold drinking chocolate.
    FREE CHOCOLATE As part of the support for Sam Beare Hospice everyone will receive a chocolate sample to take home.

11.30am: Thurstons Brewery – The Most Exact, Inexact Science of Brewing

  • Local brewery Thurstons will explain the art of brewing perfect beer.

12.30pm: Simon Taylor – The Art of Butchery

1.30pm: John Downes – Master of Wines

  • John is one of only 350 Masters of Wine in the world and is a speaker, broadcaster and writer on wine. This short masterclass will blend fun, laughter, learning and of course the tasting of 3 great wines.

2.30pm: Tony Hindhaugh – Communicating Food

  • Chef’s Training is a communications and branding company based in London. This presentation will give you a glimpse of how you can produce professional food related content and talk about the culinary things that you produce with confident and effective communication.
