Kid’s Cookery Masterclasses at Woking Food & Drink Festival

Kid's Cookery Classes

It’s coming to that time of year again where we put on our thinking caps, pull out some mixing bowls and get recipe testing for the annual Woking Food & Drink Festival – of which we are proud sponsors for the 5th year running in September 2017.

This year we are working alongside two local charities, to bring the aspiring young chefs of Woking some Cooking Masterclasses. Working from our state of the art kitchens in the Academy, our teachers will be taking children aged 7-13 years through how to make wholesome, breakfast bars using naturally delicious store cupboard ingredients such as oats, dates, peanut butter and honey – using nothing but natural sugar! All in manageable 30 minute sessions.

We are particularly excited to be working with the Sheerwater Community Project to raise funds for their fantastic Cookery Club for local children. Club members will be taking over our kitchen for their own cookery session, decorating a special tiered stack of ‘healthy vegetable’ cakes – think carrot cake and delicious red velvet! This class will not only get kids inspired and excited about cooking, but will also provide an opportunity for them to help raise funds for the club that they love.

Visitors to the 3 day food festival will be invited to take part in our ‘Guess the Weight of the Cake Competition’, running from Friday morning through to Saturday afternoon. Guesses cost just £1 and can be cast with one of our team at the Academy or on our ‘Tante Marie Tartes’ food stall, with the lucky winner receiving a voucher for 2 people to attend our fantastic Chef’s Table: Autumn Supper Menu evening at the Academy. You will also have the opportunity to see the finished cake at the festival demonstration theatre in Jubilee Square right after our Chef demonstration on the Saturday afternoon, when the winner will be announced – and of course all money raised will go straight to the Sheerwater Community Project.

Our Kid’s Cookery Sessions will run across the whole of Woking Food & Drink Festival on 1st-3rd September 2017 between 9.30am – 4.00pm. Booking in advance is essential and tickets are £10 per child, with all proceeds going to another fantastic local charity Woking & Sam Beare Hospices.

As an extra special bonus, fresh coffee and cakes will be available to parents as they watch their children mixing up a storm, for a small donation to both of these worthy charities Yum!
