Claire Alexander-Brown

Academy Principal

It is probably fair to say that Claire’s involvement with Tante Marie spans her whole life – her mother, Sue Alexander, was a teacher and Head Teacher at Tante Marie for over 40 years. Claire, like many of the Tante Marie Culinary Academy alumni, cites Sue as her main inspiration and mentor. This legacy is evident in Claire’s motivational and wise attitude towards her colleagues and students, as she too is an indomitable leader.

Claire’s early career was in a different creative sphere as she trained as a florist – her ‘unique’ claim to fame being that she once exhibited at Chelsea Flower Show! After training at Tante Marie in 1994 and working in various catering roles, she decided that her forte was in education and recipe development and she came back to teach at Tante Marie in 1999. We are extremely fortunate that she did, as Claire has an encyclopaedic knowledge of food, nutrition and flavours, as well as being our Head Recipe Creator, perfectionist Food Stylist and Demonstrator. She has also attained her Certificate in Education and C&G teaching qualifications.

Claire’s exuberant creative flair, natural good humour and genuine enthusiasm for great food and presentation, motivates and encourages confidence in all the Tante Marie staff. To her students she operates an ‘Open door’ policy and is a warm, caring and encouraging Principal. She loves to see the development of nervous students as they progress into proficient and creative chefs, and then subsequently hearing of their career developments and successes. Her favourite word, which she frequently uses is: “Deliciousness” and when she is not inspiring, cajoling or commanding the Tante Marie team Claire enjoys music, travelling and being outdoors with her family and friends.
